Savta Cafe, Bondi Junction
I was catching up with one of my dearest friend, M for lunch at Bondi Junction. She suggested Savta Cafe, which can be found on Waverly Street just outside the Westfield Shopping Centre.
The cafe was busy by the time I got there, which was a little before 1pm. It was a gorgeous day and I was hoping to sit outside under the sun, alas no. The menu is quite simple, cafe food with a Mediterranean / Israeli twist which includes burgers, salads, soup, sandwiches and many more.
The homemade lemonade was deliciously refreshing with a nice tang.
Both M and I wanted something ‘healthy’ and opted for the Za’atar chicken salad which consists of chickpeas, spinach, capsicum, sweet potato with a delicious dressing ($15).
It was a generous serving, the Za’atar chicken tender and flavoursome. I love the combination of chickpeas and sweet potato and the dressing a wonderful complement.
It was definitely a ‘healthier’ option that we both needed, however, I must admit, I was a little hungry in the afternoon and needed a mid-afternoon snack.
The food is healthy and delicious. For the size and quality, I think it is good value. I noticed what other diners were having, the burger looks sensational and so does the hummus with pita bread – will definitely have that next time.
Keen to try the Israeli breakfast which consists of chopped tomato and cucumber salad, dark olives, labne, omelette and pitta. I didn’t have coffee but M did and said it was ‘pretty’ good. Service friendly and very welcoming, a bit slow at times, but the food definitely made up for it.
