One of my favourite cafes in Sydney… Cafe XXII

First day back in Sydney and I was craving for ‘good’ coffee and ‘good’ brekkie! So when my brother asked what I wanted to do today and where I wanted to eat, I said “Café XXII”!! This is one of my favourite cafes in Sydney and believe it or not, their number is on my speed dial!!

It’s a little spot in Pyrmont and if you have never been you could easily miss it. However, doubt that you would miss it as this place is always busy regardless what day and what time. During the week, people would stop by and grab a coffee before they go to work and on weekends, people would come with their friends and / or family and enjoy a glorious feast (whether its for breakfast, lunch or dinner). On weekends they serve all day breakfast, ranging from eggs, pancakes, corn fritters or if you would like something light, croissant, toasts and banana bread.

This is a regular place for me, mainly brunch and dinner so I know a few of their staff there. Even though I haven’t been here for a couple of months, Alex still remembered my name and better yet… he remembered how I like my coffee! And the bubbly Tanya is always a delight… she is great with customers and knows the menu of the restaurant like the back of her hand!

It was SO good to drink good coffee – had my usual, LARGE skim flat white and it was fantastic – how I miss good coffee! The coffee was creamy and smooth… I truly enjoyed it!

I ordered the vegetarian breakfast which consisted of two free range eggs on toast, oven roasted tomatoes, mushroom, spinach, hash brown and marinated feta. Asked for poached eggs (as I can never ever poach an egg!) and the eggs were cooked to perfection! It was runny and the yolks would ooze out when cut straight in the middle. The spinach and mushrooms were a delight and the marinated feta was a salty and garlicky and was a perfect complement.

My brother ordered the XXII Big Breakfast which consisted of two free range organic eggs on toast, bacon, sausage, mushroom, hash brown and oven roasted tomato. The eggs were creamy and were not dry at all, the bacon was crispy and cooked to perfection and the sausage was absolutely tasty.

We were both stuffed and I realized how much I missed this place. Dinner is fantastic here – the menu changes regularly except for two – salt and pepper calamari and lasagna which are their specialties! The desserts are to die for, the tiramisu is the best I have tried in Sydney and their crème brule is also fantastic! Hopefully I will be able to squeeze dinner here.

A must visit if you go to Sydney and of course… a favourite of mine! Make sure you make a reservation for dinner and if you want to go for brunch come early otherwise there will be a wait – but definitely worth waiting for!

excellent brekkie, agreed, great service too. Although it was really busy, meals came out within 15 mins
