Brunch @ Book Kitchen, Surry Hills

A ‘local’ café that Hubby and I go – unfortunately not a short walk however, it’s a short drive – which is a bonus! Hubby and I were catching up with one hubby’s cousin, K, for brunch one Sunday morning. This place is busy and buzzing! So make sure you come early for a table.. we had to wait a good 30 mins but we didn’t mind, as we had a lot of catching up to do.

This café is also a book store – predominantly cooking books – hence the name the book kitchen. Eaters can sit and eat or drink coffee whilst reading books. These books are also for sale – I personally have never bought a book from here, but I have read and whilst eating and drinking coffee.

Hubby ordered the poached eggs with sour dough with roasted tomatoes. The sour dough bread was slightly toasted, and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection. The yolk was runny and the roasted tomatoes were fantastic.

I ordered the avocado, sour dough, Persian feta, poached egg, rocked and lemon infused olive oil. This was absolutely divine! The combination of the avocado, Persian feta, rocket and lemon infused olive oil was just incredible. It was absolutely tasty.

K had the Spanish baked eggs with tomato confit, fresh tomato, oregano and chorizo. This looked spectacular and indeed it was absolutely fantastic. I only had a taste as I was absolutely stuffed but it was flavoursome. The eggs were baked and the flavours from the oregano and chorizo was just magnificent.

Book Kitchen is a great café – if the place does get busy you can always go across the street to Bourke Street Bakery for some tarts / bread / pizza and sausage rolls.

This is one of Hubby’s favourite place – it’s casual and they have fantastic food! Come early so you don’t have to wait too long! They do serve lunch and dinner – I have yet to try the dinner but the breakfast / brunch is definitely a winner!
