Spice I am, Sydney

This restaurant has been around for a while now, and although I haven’t been here for a good 1 to 2 years, I am glad to say that the food is still as good as I remembered. This has to be one of my favourite thai restaurant in Sydney. It’s not the cheapest but it is quite reasonable.

Came here with the family and we were lucky that we didn’t have to wait for a table. I remember having to wait for 30 mins plus for a table but it is definitely worth the wait!

We started with vegetarian spring rolls and I have to admit, they were small! It wasn’t the best spring rolls, it was crispy but I thought the filling was a little bland and boring. I think mum’s spring rolls are definitely better!

Thai style fried rice with beef, served with a hint of chili was absolutely fantastic.  The flavours and aroma of the fried rice was just incredible. It was a favourite amongst the diners, especially my brother!

Chicken pad thai, served with egg, bean sprouts, crushed peanut, garlic and chives. We squeezed some lime and it really gave it a nice touch!

Next came the chicken red curry with thai eggplant, with medium mild red chili which was full of flavour. I added a bit of this curry with the pad thai and that was fantastic – weird I know, but I didn’t have any white rice and the flavours worked!

My favourite curry at spice I am would be the red duck curry which is served in the coconut shell, however, we didn’t order this as we wanted to try the basil crispy pork belly. This was served with chili, thai holy basil topped with crispy holy basil. I really enjoyed this, the pork belly was incredibly crispy, and tender. I think it would have been better if it was spicier!

My parents really enjoyed the meal, their exact words were ‘it hit the spot’. I think we all enjoyed it. I am glad that the consistency hasn’t changed! They have opened another branch in Darlinghurst, I have yet to try this one, but have heard mixed reviews. Hubby and I live near here (when in Sydney), and we used to get takeaways if the queue were horrendous. It was our favourite local thai restaurant!
