Pieno, Surry Hills

I love breakfast, and I love having breakfast with B! Our love for food is as strong as our friendship! We try and catch up for breakfast at least once a week, and we are fortunate enough to live near other and can explore the many wonderful cafes around Surry Hills!

Pieno, not so new now, but can be found on crown street adjacent to the Winery by Gazebo and opposite Thomas Dux Grocery. This is not the first time I have been here, the first time was probably last year, before I left for Hong Kong, when I had breakfast with my dear friend, M.

B and I both started with large coffees; unfortunately they didn’t have a mug for our large coffees and used the take away cups instead. I don’t mind drinking coffee out of take away cups, but if I am to dine in, then I would ‘kind of’ expect to drink out of mugs. The coffee was good, so that made up for it!

We both ordered the fruit salad with yogurt and homemade toasted granola. The fruit salad consisted of honeydew, rockmelon, watermelon, pineapple, passionfruit and grapes. The homemade toasted granola and yogurt was a great compliment. It was a great way to start the morning and of course, before work!

As I previously mentioned, I came here with M last year, and I remembered how good this place was. I remembered having the scrambled eggs with mushroom and spinach. The scrambled eggs were deliciously creamy, the spinach slightly salty was soft and a great compliment. The mushroom – wonderful! But then again, I LOVE mushrooms!

M had the sauted mushroom bruschetta with potatoes and spinach. The sauted mushrooms looked absolutely divine. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a try of this, but from memory, M did enjoy it.

It was great catching up with B, and of course M. It’s a cute little café, its extremely busy during the weekends, so come early if you want to sit outside and soak in some sun. It’s a great place for people watching and once you are done eating, go to Thomas Dux and buy yourself some yummy ice cream! (Yes, that’s what I did! Terrible but how can you say no to Serendipity or Ben and Jerry’s?)
