Croc sausages from Ish, Café Ish, Surry Hills

Café Ish really needs no introduction. It is one of my favourite cafes in Surry Hills! They serve amazing breakfast and let’s not forget the sublime, succulent, tender beef ribs that I still dream about every time I am hungry (which is ALL THE TIME!).

It has been a while since my last confession, well since my last visit (read review here) and I was looking forward to trying some of their other dishes on the menu. Started off with coffee, and it was as good as the first time! I am still amazed at its consistency! It is still one of the most wonderful cups of coffee I have had thus far. I kid you not!

I was perusing the menu and I could not go pass the croc in the rock. You will get an option of three breads available that day, and I opted for the white bread. Croc in the rock, a thick slice of white toast hollowed out and then filled with an egg mixture of chunks of crocodile sausage, shallot, feta cheese, served with a handful of salad leaves and a side of tomato relish.

I’ve never had crocodile sausage, to me, it tasted a little bit like chicken (everything seems to taste like chicken!) and was surprisingly good. The melted feta cheese gave it a creamy texture and the tomato relish was delightfully sweet and was a great compliment. I LOVED this dish, and could probably eat it every day! It was superb and if you haven’t had it before, I would strongly recommend this dish! It was EPIC!

‘The Mother’ ordered little ish: egg, tomatoes, bacon, greens on toast. He asked for poached eggs and multigrain toast. The poached egg was cooked to perfection, runny, oozy yolk. It looked divine! (No he did not offer me any!) The bacon OUTSTANDING, with a capital O, as ‘The Mother’ said. I couldn’t help but steal a piece (he glared at me of course!), it was perfection!

My brother, F, also ordered little ish, scrambled eggs on white toast. Unfortunately I didn’t take a photo of this, but the scrambled egg was deliciously creamy and a little runny, just the way we like it! F thought it was a superb dish, simple but scrumptiously yummy.

I came here one early Tuesday morning before work, and ordered the trifle, yogurt, muesli and berry compote. This was deliciously rich, the muesli was crunchy, the yogurt was a tad sour on its own, but mixed with the sweet berry compote – delicious! A little sweet for my liking but for those who has a sweet tooth and likes sweet breakfast, this is for you.

I really don’t need any more justifications, Café Ish IS one of my favourite cafes! The best thing about it is that it is RIGHT around the corner from where I live. I can see that this will be my hangout breakfast venue on the weekends! Thanks Josh!
