Lunch at Home Thai Restaurant, Sydney

I have heard raving reviews about Home Thai, however, I haven’t had many good thai restaurants here in Sydney. Chat Thai is another favourite, however, it really doesn’t appeal to me or my palate. My last meal there was not memorable and have not been back ever since.

So when another foodie friend, C, raved about this place, I had to try it for myself. I met up with C one lunch time, he suggested that we get there around about midday (earlier if possible) as the place gets busy and he was right.

Home Thai restaurant can be found on Sussex Street, just next to Shalom. Upon entering, I noticed how similar the layout was to Chat Thai! My thoughts ‘oh dear’, I didn’t have high expectations but had an open mind.

The menu was also similar to Chat Thai, I opted for the yum hua plee – banana flower with chicken, prawn served with shallot, coriander, onion, dried coconut, cashew nut, chili jam with chefs dressing. The presentation was excellent, I loved how it was served in the banana flower. It was refreshingly light dish with lots of flavour.

C, ordered his usual, apparently he gets this dish EVERY single time he comes here! Pad see ew, flat rice noodles work tossed in soy sauce with pork and egg. I had a taste, it was nice but a little on the sweet side for my liking. Not quite sure how C finished it all as it was a rather large serving. Not sure if I like it as much as he does though.

We both ordered the logan juice with logans. It was cold and sweet and perfect for a hot day!

We were going to get desserts, the dessert of the day, but they didn’t have any at lunch, which was a shame. I may have to come back just for the desserts!

The restaurant was packed by the time we were done, which was approximately 1pm! It is a tiny restaurant though, and people were queuing outside.

I love how ALL the waitress have ipads to take your orders! I was tempted to ask if I could borrow and surf the net but didn’t think that was appropriate.

I have to admit, my salad was good, but that was only one dish. I will definitely return to see if their other dishes live up to the raving reviews. Let’s just say that I would be happy to go back to try other dishes. Total costs for meal was about $35 including drinks.

Should we go again C?
