Bowan Island Bakery, Drummoyne

Bowan Island Bakery in Drummoyne has been around for as long as I remember. They now have two other locations in Chatswood and Five Dock. It’s not only a bakery, but also a cafe that sells Bowan Island breads and pastries. The cafe has a wide range of meals on offer, rolls, sandwiches, toasties, and even breakfast!

Bowan Island Bakery is an Australian owned and run company and has been around for the over 17 years. They are ranked in the top 5 bakeries in the Sydney Morning Herald’s People’s Choice Awards and is one of my favourite bakeries in Sydney.

‘The Mother’ and I were catching up with The C’s family, S and T for brekkie one weekend. The place was extremely busy but thankfully we didn’t have to wait for long for a table.

The coffee was strong, aromatic and excellent.

I couldn’t go past the bircher muesli served with yogurt, fruits and berry compote. The bircher was exceptionally good, soaked in orange juice, mixed with nuts, coconut and dried fruits. The yogurt was rich and creamy and the berry compote was sweet and a wonderful complement.

‘The Mother’ opted for the scrambled eggs which were served with a thick slice of toast made by the bakery! Unfortunately the scrambled eggs weren’t the best, it was dry and a little tasteless. The bread as expected was beautiful.

S couldn’t go past the tomatoes toastie, toasted with generous serving of tomatoes and topped with cheese. I didn’t have any of this, but she seemed to have enjoyed it.

A had the breakfast wrap, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, capsicum, spinach all wrapped up. It wasn’t toasted, it looked good though but the best breakfast wrap I’ve had is in the city, AMP building food court and for less than $5 it is one hell of a wrap!

P had the chicken burger, probably not the best shot as it had way too many greens! But P said it wasn’t a ‘bad burger’.

The lamington caught A’s eyes, it wasn’t square but rather round shaped. Fluffy sponge cake coated in a chocolate icing and desiccated coconut. We were both hoping that it had jam inside. Unfortunately, no such luck but it was good!

Service friendly and even though there was a line whilst ordering, it moved relatively quickly. Meals are around $5 – $15 pending on what you order. It was great catching with the C’s family, and S and T. I bought some sour dough to take home for lunch that day and LOVED it!
