Robocog Cafe, Surry Hills

I always get excited when a new cafe opens, new places to try on weekends with friends or ‘The Mother’.  I have walked past this cafe many times now. Opened five months ago by House, Jet and Winny, this gorgeous little cafe with white picket fence can be found on Riley Street. It only seats 20 people but it is rather spacious. I love the wooden tables, the outdoor seating under the sun and the open kitchen where you can see the boys in action.

Whilst perusing the menu, I noticed the wide range of fresh juices – 15 different combinations, tutti fruiti (mixed fruit and berries), green punch (apple, spinach, celery and mint) and many more. I was tempted to get the breakfast trifle, but wanted something more wholesome and savoury. I noticed they had quesadillas – two types, chicken or vegetarian which comes with house-made Mexican salsa. The couple next to us ordered it and it looked fantastic.

I started with my morning coffee fix, skim flat white. The coffee was smooth but I thought it lacked a little in flavour, it was a little too mild.

I opted for something simple – breakfast ‘chorizo’ ($10.90), scrambled eggs, sauté chorizo, sour dough toasted and mix salad. The scrambled eggs I thought was a little dry, I do like my eggs a little runny and creamy. I heart chorizo, cut into thin strips, they were excellent. The salad was a great complement.

‘The Mother’ on the other hand, opted for Eggs ‘flori’ ($10.90), two poached eggs with spinach and hollandaise on toast. The hollandaise sauce was deliciously creamy, and absolutely divine! The poached eggs were cooked to perfection! Unfortunately, ‘The Mother’ devoured this before I could even take any more photos.

It’s a very funky, and cozy cafe. I love the decor, the cupboard which hung on the wall displaying many different types of robots. I was tempted to take one home.

I love the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly staff. Great for a lazy Sunday morning!

I love scrambled eggs with chorizo and such a simple dish to cook at home too. Must remember to make it on the weekend.
