Revisit, Le Monde, Surry Hills

I was catching up with my favourite ‘Uncle’ and his lovely wife E at Le Monde. It certainly has been a while since my last visit, and the fact that I am no longer a lady of leisure, brunch on a weekday is virtually impossible. Some cafe like Single Origin is closed on the weekend which makes it even more impossible to visit! Thankfully Le Monde is open on Saturday, so suggested it to ‘Uncle’ as he’s never been but have heard wonderful things about this cafe.

Arrived just a little after midday, the place was packed and buzzing and we had a ten minute wait which we didn’t mind at all.

Once we were seated, I ordered my usual mix berry smoothie – deliciously refreshing and went down too nicely and quickly!

Both E and I couldn’t go past poached eggs with roast pumpkin, wilted spinach, sautéed onions and basil pesto on toast. It really had me at roast pumpkin! E ordered a side of Gypsy Ham from Barrosa and they were the tastiest ham I have had in a while!

The poached eggs were cooked to perfection – oozing with yolk. I love the combination of pumpkin, wilted spinach, onions and basil pesto on toasted sour dough. All the different flavours burst in my mouth and it was exactly what I needed that day.

‘Uncle’ on the other hand ordered the big breakfast – it looked big, but I had no doubt that ‘Uncle’ would finish it and he did! Eggs of your choice – so in this case, sunny side up, mushroom, welted spinach and bacon, which were just superb and cooked the way we all liked it!

I really do like this place, it is definitely one of my many favourite cafes in Surry Hills! The ambiance, the service, the coffee, which I didn’t have that day, but from memory was excellent and the food, tremendous! It was a shame that they didn’t have my Frenched chicken wings with coleslaw, that was one hell of a lunch!

I’m still keen to try their three course breakfast which is for $25 – reservation is recommended for this and I am just never organised enough to it! Total bill that day came to $55 and we even got a free blueberry muffin for free which I gave to E!

Having to work sure is a bummer isn’t it, but I’m glad you’re still fitting in your brunches on the weekend.
