Sushi Roll, Sydney
I first noticed Sushi Roll when I was walking into David Jones food hall in search of lunch! It was one of those frustrating day where I didn’t know what I wanted to eat. I knew I didn’t want anything at the fancy food court so thought I would wonder through David Jones’s food hall and get an idea and noticed Sushi Roll.
Situated inside Westfield Shopping Centre, Sushi Roll offers a wide range of readily made sushi ranging from salmon and avocado, tuna rolls, California rolls and many more. They also have pre-made lunch sets, sashimi sets and sushi rolls. And not to mention these readily made fried goodies.
I on the other hand wanted something more ‘substantial’ and by substantial, I mean something naughty!
I noticed on their menu that they had chicken katsu which was served with rice, salad and miso soup for $13.50. A tad pricey but it was exactly what the stomach wanted!
I had to take it away, as I had spent the last 30 – 40 mins walking aimlessly trying to figure out what to eat and had to go back. The chicken katsu was fantastic, even when I got back to the office. The batter was thin and incredibly crunchy. The chicken juicy and succulent.
I loved the sauce – a combination of mustard, and that sweet tonkatsu sauce. I really wanted to lick the box but didn’t want my colleagues to know about my ‘weird’ habits!
I came back here a week later with my food partner in crime, C. We dined in and got the mixed katsu which consists of chicken, prawn and crab served with rice and miso soup for $15.50.
Generous serving of chicken, prawn and crab katsu. The batter was as good as the first time, it was incredibly crunchy and the sauce… I loved the sauce! The chicken was excellent, the prawn and crab absolutely delightful! I love the little ‘bucket’ that the rice was served in! I wanted to take it home.
I have tried a couple of the pre-cooked gyoza and takoyaki and was not great. It was lukewarm which is not great for fried food. If you don’t want katsu, they do have different types of bento boxes or set lunches on offer – tempura, teriyaki beef and many more for $16.50.
I love the decor and the friendly atmosphere. The dine-in menu is not cheap but it is Westfield Sydney after all! Service is quick and friendly and so glad that now I can have my chicken katsu fix. Now I have to find a good unagi place so I can get my fix when craving for it!
