Fundamental Fish, Balmain

Fundamental fish in Balmain has been around for as long as I remember. I remember coming here for brunch and dinner with friends a few years back but it certainly has been a LONG time since my last visit. There’s really no shortage of cafe’s in Balmain – I am not sure why we picked this place, probably cause it used to be a ‘local’ or possibly cause it is the closest cafe we saw.

The place was busy when we got there at midday. I was catching up with the lovely A and S – a girlie catch up.

Love the brightness of this frappe! Think from memory it was strawberry or raspberry? A?

The coffee was so so, too watery for my liking.

I was starving so opted for the big breakfast – eggs, bacon, sausage, roast tomato, mushroom with either orange juice or coffee ($16). It was a gigantic serve and true to its name – BIG breakfast! Unfortunately i didn’t finish it all, the eggs were a little dry, the bacon and sausage weren’t too bad but I loved how the focaccia was smothered with butter.

A had the eggs fundamental ($13) – poached eggs with brie, and ham and hollandaise sauce. The eggs cooked to perfection, the bacon a wonderful complement. Was it the best eggs hollandaise? No, but it was ‘pretty decent’.

S opted for the pea and ham soup special ($9) which was served with garlic toast. Unfortunately S said it was pretty ordinary and most like ‘will not order it again’.

They serve all day breakfast which I love, but they also serve lunch like pies, pork cutlets and many more. The servings are generous and staff extremely friendly.

As always, lovely to catch up with both S and A and I look forward to catching up with you both again soon!
