Best duck rice, Wai Kee, Wan Chai, Hong Kong

I really do like this cooked food centre which has many foods stalls on Bowrington Road, Wan Chai. I have been here a few times now, mainly to eat their seafood, it’s fresh, cheap and absolutely delicious. I was catching up with an old school friend, M, for lunch and she suggested we get duck rice – she claims it is the best duck rice in Hong Kong.

Don’t expect much though in terms of décor or service. It is very ghetto – lots of plastic chairs, wooden tables, plastic cups and communal jug of tea, chopsticks, and plastic spoon. Service minimal but food – INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS! Especially if you like duck!

We were here for one thing, the duck rice and a large serving at that. It was warm and fresh, skin incredibly crispy and duck meat melt-in-your mouth tender. The marinate is wonderful, and not too salty and the duck… I can’t begin to tell you how fantastic it is! The aroma, the taste, the flavour…. simply delicious!

We also got a plate of radish (wasn’t photo worthy!) which was nice and soft. I hear they have slow cooked pomelo-peels which is a popular dish and often sold out during the weekend. The lamb curry is supposed to be good too, but we were too full to order both. There will definitely be a next time.

Definitely worth coming for, it does get busy but rest assured turnover is quite quick. They are not open for dinner as I was told, so it is only a lunch time thing! I can’t remember how much each plate cost, but we ordered 3 plates and with radish and it was less than HKD100 (less than $13) – BARGAIN!

If only this place was closer to work – wouldn’t mind duck rice tomorrow for lunch
