Oolaa Petite Restaurant, Wanchai, Hong Kong
I’m really on the hunt for good / cool / funky breakfast places in Hong Kong. We were catching up with a few friends, M, S, Uncle’s brother D and his wife C. M suggested this place, she comes here quite often, enjoys the coffee and food is quite ‘decent’. We rocked up at about 11 and the place was buzzing, lots of people already. We were told that with a party of six, the wait could be up to 30 – 40 minutes. I am not usually a fan of waiting, but nothing on Star Street really appealed to us. Classified was busy and the place is TINY! Chez Patrick didn’t really have breakfast items – they had deli, sandwiches and quiches which I didn’t really want so we decided to wait. Thankfully 30 minutes went really quickly and we were seated immediately. The staff that ran the floor was very good and made sure we were informed when our tables were ready.
Oolaa is part of the castelo concepts group who has a few restaurants under its name such as Harrington’s, Jaspa’s, Wagyu, Zaks and many more. Oolaa Petite is the younger sister restaurant of Oolaa in Sheungwan.
The menu vast, I couldn’t decide if I wanted savoury or sweet, but I am usually a savoury person for breakfast. The eggs benedict with bacon and avocado sounded good, with a side of sausage of course! The eggs were cooked to perfection, and the bacon and avocado was a wonderful complement.
‘The Mother’ and M both had the breakfast bruschetta which similar to the eggs benedict but with tomato and onions. The bread was a little tough, making it difficult to eat, however, they both still really enjoyed it and the tomato and onions really gave it a nice touch – I may have to order this for next time.
D ordered the bagel – smoked salmon, tomatoes, and onions served with salad didn’t look too bad either. But I am a little sceptical about ordering bagel anywhere but in New York – they certainly do have the BEST bagel in the world!
S ordered the burrito – scrambled eggs, mushroom, bacon which was served with tomatoes and salad. It definitely did look good!
I can’t remember what C had, from memory it was either an omelette or scrambled eggs with something. Obviously I forgot to take a photo!
The coffee here is good, I had the berry smoothie which went down too nicely and too quickly.
Service good and food was definitely decent. Worth coming back, but try and come early to beat that brunch time service. I think I may have found a ‘good’ breakfast after all, Oolaa and The Newsroom are two of my favourites thus far. I’m sure there will be more to come!
