The Salted Pig, Central, Hong Kong

You all know my love for pork! It is possibly my favourite meat – pork cutlet, pork belly, suckling pig, you name it – I love it all! I don’t even have a preference to how it is cooked, as long as its tender, fatty, and skin is crunchy. So when a dear friend told me about the Salted Pig opening, I had to give it ago. I was a little bummed that I missed out on food tasting event there, as Dragon was unwell but made sure I went the following week with a colleague to check it out.

The team behind The Salted Pig is also the team behind Shore Restaurant and Bar, complete with its wonderful chef Jason Black. Both located at the L Place, The Salted Pig is all about comfort food, pork comfort food. The pork knuckle sandwich is one of their signature dishes but it is not just about pork, diners have a choice of beef and chicken dishes. The restaurant is quite spacious; it has that bloke-y feel to it.

The salted Pig offers diners 3 different types of set lunch menu, piglet (soup, salad or starter for HKD98), porker (soup, salad or starter, specialty or sandwich for HKD118) or wild boar (soup, salad or starter, anything of the menu for HKD148).

We started with fresh bread, which was soft and fluffy.

I opt for the porker – soup and sandwich. The tomato soup with croutons and cheese was light and delightful. Fresh tomato soup, the croutons were soggy but it was still quite tasty.

I couldn’t resist the shredded pork knuckle Memphis style sandwich with celeriac apple coleslaw. MY GOODNESS, it was divine! It reminded me a little of the pork sandwich at Wilbur’s Place but without the crackle. The pork meat was incredibly tender and absolutely delicious.

My colleague wanted something lighter and opts for the piglet – soup and salad / starter. He had the tomato soup but decided on the roasted salmon with capers which he took away. Unfortunately I didn’t take a photo of this, as he devoured it and didn’t tell me.

I am definitely keen to try the dinner, especially the pre-appetizer charcuterie platter which consists of five kinds of cold cuts, pork terrine, pork rillettes, scotch eggs and piccalilli. I have seen pictures of this and it looks absolutely divine!

Service was good, and we got our food relatively quickly which was good for lunch. Definitely will be back for lunch for some pigfest!
