Fook Lam Moon, Wanchai, Hong Kong

I am in search for the best whole suckling pig in Hong Kong. I went to Manor about two years ago for the suckling pig with some friends and absolutely loved it. I wanted to try somewhere different, so did a little of searching and Fook Lam Moon came up. I was told by several people that it is where ‘billionaires go to eat’ or ‘where you will meet Hong Kong stars’ – I was a little freaked out as I couldn’t find the menu online and wasn’t sure how much things costs! But I figured, what the hell, it was my birthday after all!

I wanted pork – a whole suckling pig to be exact and that’s exactly what I got. The first Fook Lam Moon restaurant opened in 1972 in Wanchai. It now has branches in Tsim Sha Tsui, Tokyo Ginza, Osaka, Tokyo Marunochi and Nagoya, Shanghai Shangri-la Hotel and Futian Shenzhen Shangri-la Hotel and Beijing.

The main event, it came first – the whole suckling pig! What a sight!

The delicious crispy skin, it just melted in my mouth, OH MY!

Once all the skin is eaten, and mind you I think I ate about ¾ of it, the pig is then cut into little pieces for us to eat. The pork meat itself was incredibly tender, and juicy.

The crispy chicken was just as delicious – again crispy skin, and tender meat.

I am a sucker for tofu and would order it every time I am at a restaurant. The tofu was silky smooth and cooked with mushrooms and bok choy – pretty simple but delicious.

Some vegetables for ‘The Mother’.

It’s a tradition in our family that for birthdays one must order noodles (for long life etc etc) – so we ordered crispy noodles with beef. The noodles were crunchy and the beef was a wonderful complement. Sorry no pic as I forgot – was too busy eating the pig!

I was getting pretty full by this stage – in fact I was actually FULL! But couldn’t resist in getting some mango pudding. The mango pudding had fresh mangoes in them and was not sickly sweet.

Service was definitely efficient and staffs were very observant. It was an epic birthday dinner, awesome food and incredible company! What more can I ask for? It wasn’t cheap, but it was definitely worth every cent! Thanks for spending the special day with me, even Dragon got me two slices of cake both without nuts! Xx
