JAR, Just-a-Restaurant, Central, Hong Kong
Just-a-Restaurant can be found on the busy street of Lyndhurst Terrace in Central. JAR sits under the umbrella of 798 unit and co group, and quite famous introducing the ‘gastropub’ concept to the local dining scene. The restaurant is quite spacious and cozy. We were here for lunch and the set menu I thought was reasonably priced. Diners have the option of either soup or salad and a choice main which ranged from fish, chicken, pasta, beef and many more.
We started with some bread, thought the bread was rather ordinary which is a shame. I always look forward to warm, fresh out of the oven bread!
I couldn’t go past the pumpkin soup – it was a little watery for my liking but I prefer my pumpkin soup thick and creamy.
My colleague had the salmon with mash and beans. I love salmon but the problem with ordering salmon at a restaurant is most of the time it is over cooked! This unfortunately was a little over cooked for me but G seems to have enjoyed it.
The braised beef brisket with roast vegetables was absolutely fantastic! The beef was so tender that it just fell off the bone, and the vegetables was a wonderful complement.
Dessert came with the set lunch however, it took forever for our mains to come and we all had to go back to the office that we skipped dessert. I can’t even remember what dessert was but I was told that the banoffi pie with caramelised banana is a must try!
Service was a bit slow unfortunately, but the menu sounded delicious and my beef brisket was DEFINITELY fantastic!
