Daikiya, Central, Hong Kong

There’s really not a shortage of Japanese restaurants in Central, Hong Kong. Daikiya can be found in the M88 building on Wellington Street. Apparently its popular for its buffet during dinner time, however, we were here for lunch and thought the value was pretty good. It was extremely tight and cozy though, tables were so closed together that I am pretty sure I could have reached over and sampled their food! (and hear their conversation also!)

The menu is vast, so much to choose from. Pretty much all meals come with a salad, miso and dessert. We started with the salad, it was refreshingly light but nothing special I thought.

The miso soup was a little salty for my liking.

I opt for the beef hot pot with vegetables and rice. The beef was tender and succulent, I would have preferred more beef than rice though! But that’s just me.

A small plate full of sashimi came with the beef which unfortunately I didn’t have but my G enjoyed it.

G ordered the sashimi with rice and thought it was delicious! Fresh sashimi, she loved the salmon sashimi and the prawns.

And for dessert, which I didn’t take a photo of was black sesame and mango mochi which were great!

Service was pleasant, and food came relatively quickly. What I didn’t like was how close the tables were, and the miso soup was a tad salty.

A little privacy and space while dining is often seriously underrated! The sashimi looks awesome!
