Ser Wong Fun, Central, Hong Kong

Ser Wong Fun is quite famous for its snake soup in Hong Kong. It is located in Central, at the bottom of Mid-Levels. Menu is all in Chinese, thankfully I was with the family so they knew how to read and ordered in Chinese!

We ordered the snake soup – to be frank, I wasn’t sure what to expect. This is a winter soup but they serve it all year round. The soup is quite thick, and contained a lot of snake meat (which I thought taste like chicken) and on top, big crunchy fried wonton skins. It was quite tasty I thought, the meat wasn’t gamey and I really like the addition of the fried wonton skin. Definitely worth trying!

I couldn’t go past the char siu and duck rice. The char siu had the perfect fat and meat ratio, and the duck was quite tasty. (Sorry for the blurry picture, had to hold Dragon in one hand and obviously I have not mastered the taking a photo with one hand!)

Ser Wong Fun is also known for their Chinese sausage – the typical Cantonese style sausages and they are pretty fatty and have a nice sweet taste to it which I absolutely love! The sausages here are well made and the texture and flavour are excellent.

We also got a rice of pork ribs with vegetables with rice. This wasn’t too bad, I think we probably should have ordered the sweet and sour pork.

Service is minimal, turnover quite quickly, so don’t be put off by the queues. Would definitely be back to try their other dishes and perhaps when it’s cooler the snake soup. I have also read somewhere that they do snake degustation – oh my.. imagine 8 courses of snake dishes! Hmhmhmh
