I have such a weak spot for desserts. I used to think that it was the most important meal of the day and there was a stage in my life that I had to have it after dinner.. as you can see it really didn’t help with the weight loss or my hips and thighs for that matter! Now I try and eat more fruits but I would have the occasional desserts once in a while.
After our meal in North Point, we wanted something sweet and as I was taking Dragon for a walk I stumbled across this dessert place, Trolley Dessert. it was relatively empty, I asked the owners if they were new and they said at the time, they have only been opened for a month or two. I’m not sure what was here previously as I don’t venture out to North Point very often but was definitely curious enough to check it out. The menu was vast! From memory 4 pages long and yes they did have English menu for me who can’t read Chinese! They had all sorts of desserts for everyone, and you could add extra goodness to your dessert.
I have been craving grass or herbal jelly of late, and they don’t make the grass or herbal jelly like the one at meetfresh! The grass jelly with cha cha and green bean – it was seriously good! It wasn’t too sweet or too milky – the combination was just perfect.
M couldn’t go past the black sesame glutinous rice balls – this is usually my favourite. Served hot with ginger – the more ginger the better obviously! I think my favourite for this is at Aunty Sweets – the last time I was there, I couldn’t help but order 2 servings of it! OMG!
‘The Mother’ is on the hunt for the best mango, pomelo, sago dessert with mango ice cream. He was pretty happy with this one, especially with the ice cream.
Overall the desserts I thought were nice. I am definitely keen to try the others so will definitely be back! It was relatively empty that evening, I do hope that they will still be there for my next visit! Hopefully soon!

This place was highly recommended by a friend. M was in town, and we wanted to go for hotpot, however, it wasn’t your traditional hot pot (and you can see why later on!). The menu was all in Chinese, but thankfully one waiter was patient and explained to us what was on the menu one by one. He didn’t speak English well, I didn’t speak Cantonese at all but somehow we managed to understand each other.
Now Spring Trinity hotpot offers diners spicy chicken pot – apparently it has been trending for a while and I didn’t even know it! Spring Trinity offers diners all you can eat hotpot and drinks with their spicy chicken pot for HKD168. The hotpot comes in two broth choices, Sichuan spicy or pork bone, and from memory we opt for the Sichuan spicy but it wasn’t overly too spicy which was good.
Started with some chicken wings and pickles.
Before we start with the hotpot, the chicken pot is brought before us, and there was a GENEROUS amount of chicken which was extremely flavourful! I love the sauce, it was delicious.
Once we have eaten the chicken or most of it, water is poured over it and this is where the hotpot begins! It was different, we kept finding pieces of chicken which was partly nice and partly annoying! Especially if you were expecting beef or something.
Since we couldn’t really read the menu we relied on the waiter to get what we want – beef mainly, think we had about 4 servings off, a mixture of beef, pork balls, some pork, chicken and most importantly vegetables and noodles. Overall, it wasn’t too bad and I think we ordered pretty well!
Service was friendly, the place was relatively small. It was good but this was the first time I’ve had chicken pot hotpot so can’t really compare. Will definitely have to try other places – recommendations are definitely welcomed! Reservations are highly recommended!

I first went to this restaurant many years ago – the first time we moved to Hong Kong which was in 2010. The Big Bite has also moved location, it is still in North Point, but not on King’s Road but Java Road. The new location is slightly bigger and the menu is a lot more intensive then before. They now serve breakfast instead of just burgers.
‘The Mother’ was hungry, so he thought we would share a couple of things. Now, when ‘The Mother’ is hungry, his idea of sharing isn’t quite 50-50. It’s more like 90-10 to him! The big breakfast was indeed big – scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans, mushroom and tomato – everything I love on the one plate!
The cheese burger was good, but wasn’t as good as I remembered it to be. It had way too many veggies for my liking, and no sauce trickled down my hand. It wasn’t as messy, it was just way too neat. It was good but the old burger was infinitely better.
The buffalo wings were spicy, and not too bad. I have definitely had better, especially in the USA.
Service is minimal, there is no table service, you order at the counter and then food is delivered to your table (from memory). Unfortunately I wasn’t blown away by the burgers which is sad, but the breakfast I would definitely come back for!

I have been to Modern China a couple of times now – so will combine both visits in the one post. Founded in 2002, I first went to Modern China about 2 years ago, the Tai Kok Tsui location in Olympian City and enjoyed it. I didn’t realise that they opened one in Times Square, Causeway Bay until my dear high school friend took me there. Located on the 10th floor of Times Square, we rocked up at about 1pm and thankfully we didn’t have to wait for very long – 15 minutes max?
The restaurant was quite spacious, cold – temperature wish, décor was a little cheesy I thought – not very modern at all! Menu was vast! It took us a while to decide what to order, but left all the ordering to my M.
We started with the golden tea smoked eggs (HKD15 each) – oh my, these babies were deliciously smoke-y and cooked to perfection.
The shredded cucumber salad (HKD38) was refreshingly light and a little spicy which gave it a nice kick.
I couldn’t stop eating these delicious moreish, fat and juicy prawn and vegetable dumplings.
We both couldn’t go past the jung-bor style pork (2 pieces for $68) – OH MY GOD is all I can say. Tender, juicy pork, it was fatty, it was soft, it was calorific, but it was good! So good that I could probably eat two portions on my own!
We also these plain buns to eat with the pork.
Came back with the family about 1 month later and because my dear cousin was in town. He wanted the golden tea smoked eggs – we all got one but I am pretty sure he ate more than his share J
The sizzling beef with Beijing leek (HKD88) was good but nothing special I thought.
We ordered the sliced fish in spiced sauce (HKD126) and indeed it was spicy but it wasn’t as spicy as I had hoped. It didn’t leave that tingly sensation on my tongue but the fish were incredibly tender.
We couldn’t go past the mouthful small steamed meat buns aka xiao long bau (8 pieces for HKD46) – perfect!
The chefs special fried rice (HKD88) was good, I love the pork floss on top!
And no doubt we ordered the jung-bor style pork also. Service was a bit of a hit and miss. Very minimal but food was reasonably good. We didn’t have dessert at Modern China, but we did have dessert elsewhere.
We ended up at Tsui Yuen Dessert at North Point, one of the many branches and I couldn’t go past the mango sago dessert – possibly my favourite dessert.
However, we also got the black sesame ‘dumplings’ in ginger – my favourite! The strong ginger gives it that nice kick and I love black sesame – so win win!
Overall a great evening of food, I hope you had a great time in Hong Kong dear cousin, come back soon!

After a night out of drinking, all I can think of is a big, juicy burger! Hubby and I went out with some friends and well, whenever we say ‘let’s have a couple of beers then go home’, it’s never just a couple! So when I got up on Sat with a ‘little’ hangover, I knew I needed something to soak up all that alcohol! (In my head, it was still a ‘quiet’ night!)
This is the second time I have been here (read first review here) and I have to say, it was as good as the first time! Last time I had the ‘sloppy joe’ and it was indeed sloppy and messy! This time, I wanted something simpler – a cheese burger with bacon! All the burgers are made freshly on the spot whilst you wait, and once it’s done, the waiter will bring it over to your table.
I have been craving for a burger for a while now and I had high expectations! A tower of goodness was placed in front of me, and OMG – that first bite was just magical. It was absolutely fantastic. The beef patty was juicy and succulent, the bacon crispy and salty and burger a little spicy from the jalapenos. It was messy, sauce dripping everywhere, but it was absolutely phenomenal! Each bite I took was better than the next, I wanted more and more!! It was mouth watering! The burger went down quickly and nicely! It was absolutely superb!
Hubby had the classic cheese burger, which was the same as mine without the bacon. He demolished this and was eye-ing my burger! Um.. NO! He definitely enjoyed this better than the hotdog (which he had last time!).
Not sure why we didn’t get any chips! That would have definitely gone down nicely too! They have buffalo wings which I have yet to try and for those who wants poutine, they also have it here at the Big Bite! It looked good but I think after my tower of goodness, I was truly and utterly stuffed!
The burgers at The Big Bite have got to be my favourite thus far. Definitely better than Mix Burger (read review here) and DEFINITELY better than Great Burger Union (read review here). Is it better than McSorley (read review here), I still prefer the Big Bite. It definitely satisfied my burger cravings (I am craving for another one right now!)

I have been to Burger Mix a couple of times now and I admit, although it is not as great as Mc Sorleys or Big Bite Burgers, it is not too bad and it definitely satisfies the burger cravings.
They have a wide range of burgers ranging from fish-fillet burger, Hawaii burger, cheese mushroom burger, kimchi burger, grilled chicken burger, pork chop burger, cheese burger or you can create your own burger, which are all freshly made on the spot.
I have wanted to try the kimchi burger but every time I come here, I can never go pass the classic cheese burger, which consists of beef patty, cheese, tomato, lettuce, mayo and ketchup. The bun was slightly toasted, the beef patty was cooked medium rare, the lettuce and tomato were fresh and the combination of mayo and ketchup was a great compliment. It definitely filled the right holes, especially tonight.
The chips are golden and crispy – crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was perfect with ketchup that’s for sure.
It was just the thing that I craved for.
As for which is better? Mc Sorleys? Big Bite burger? My favourite is still Mc Sorleys but Burger Mix does satisfy the cravings and it is close to home which is a BONUS! (or dangerous some might say!)

I would have never found this place if a friend of ours didn’t invite us. It was his farewell; ironically he was going to Sydney to work and thought he would have his last supper with his friends at Tung Po Kitchen. This place can be found on the 2nd – 3rd floors of the wet Java Road market in North Point.
We all let J (yes I have a lot of friends whose name begins with J!) order, as he was the expert and indeed he ordered well!
Started off with Yabbies – I am not sure if I quite like this dish – as this was served cold! I am not used to eating cold yabbies – I like it hot, deep fried with lots and lots of garlic! Everyone seemed to have enjoyed this dish though… not for me I believe.
Squid ink noodles with squid ink balls – this was interesting. I have eaten squid ink pasta in Sydney before, at a gwai lo restaurant, but never in a Chinese restaurant. The noodles and squid ink balls were soft and cooked to perfection. I enjoyed this dish, but what I didn’t enjoy was having black teeth and mouth afterward!
Scallop with vermicelli was indeed tasty! However, I think it had way too much ginger for my liking – I had to pass on the garlic to hubby who demolished it with his scallops. The scallops were fresh and the vermicelli was a great a compliment.
Fried crabs with lots and lots of ginger! I am not usually a big fan of eating crabs outside of the comfort of my own home! It’s usually too messy and the effort for a little bit of meat is just too much and unappealing. However, the crab was tasty and the garlic really made it really flavoursome.
One of their signature dishes is the lotus glutinous rice with duck jus. A mountain of rice was placed before us and the aroma from the dish was just unbelievably. It smelt absolutely divine and indeed it was divine. It was extremely flavoursome, and the ingredients really did blend. It was indeed a ‘signature’ dish.
Besides the tasty food, one of the highlights was how the beer was served – in a bowl. The problem with this is that you never know how much beer you have drunk. People kept topping up my ‘cup’ which was a bowl and by the 3rd pour I really had to stay stop! It’s a dangerous way of drinking – as we found out that night – one of our friends got totally and utterly sick! It was like a bottomless bowl! I blame J for continuously pouring and ordering way too much beer. Can you believe they ran out of Heineken after 1 hour or so? Yes, I believe we drank ALL the Heineken!!!!!
